Fall
Labor Day- First Monday of September
Ask your students to write about what they want to
do when they grow up. What job do they want? Why? Do
they know someone who has this job? This assignment
can be followed up with an interview. They have to
ask someone who has their dream job five questions
about the job. This assignment works for older
children and teens when rephrased.
Columbus Day- Second Monday of October
Who sailed the ocean blue in 1492? Christopher
Columbus! Columbus Day is a great time to teach
children about exploration. Why stop with Columbus?
You could also discuss Marco Polo, Ferdinand
Magellan, and Juan Ponce de Leon to name a few.
